The Syrian Church in Melbourne - Advocate, July 21 1894

Title

The Syrian Church in Melbourne - Advocate, July 21 1894

Subject

Lack of funds to open a Syrian Orthodox church in Melbourne.

Description

This article discusses the attempts for a Syrian Orthodox church to be built in Melbourne. The Reverend Nammar was not able to achieve the funds to build a church at the time. They were looking to set up a church in an already existing structure that was not properly fitted out for the church's needs. It can be assumed that there was a large enough Syrian Orthodox community in Melbourne in 1894 for a church to be deemed necessary. This article also tries to rally support for this church from other branches of Catholicism.
